| Biochemist, born in Malden, Massachusetts, USA. He joined the faculty of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1926) and chaired the department of food technology from 1952 until his death. In the late 1940s he began studying the use of radiation to preserve food. He consulted for the US Public Health Service (1951) and wrote many papers, including four on the microbiology of the upper atmosphere. In 1937 he co-wrote Food Technology. |
