| Ruler of Milan. He inherited the signoria at the death of his uncle John. At first he shared the rule with his brothers Matteo II and Galeazzo II, but soon Matteo died and Galeazzo took the W territories and held court at Pavia. He embarked on a policy of aggression and took Reggio from Niccolò II d'Este (1371). He tried, unsuccessfully, to take Bologna from the pope, and fought Verona and Genoa. In 1385 he was imprisoned by his nephew, Gian Galeazzo, and died of poisoning. |
