| Duke and Marquis of Friuli (874), then King of Italy (888). He lost the crown when defeated by Guido di Spoleto (889), but reconquered it after Guido and Arnulf of Carinthia died (899). He became emperor in 915 but lost the crown to Rudolph II of Burgundy (923), backed by the feudal lords. Defeated by Rudolph at Fiorenzuola, he was murdered in jail. |
