| Pianist, born in Odessa, S Ukraine. He studied at the Imperial Academy of Music, Odessa, where he won the Rubinstein Prize at the age of nine, and subsequently studied in Vienna. Rapidly winning recognition as an exponent of the music of the Romantic composers, he first appeared in Britain in 1908, and took British nationality in 1937. |
