| Rabbi, born in Nemeskér, Hungary. Educated in Vienna and Breslau (Poland), he went to the USA in 1859 to be rabbi of Congregation Oheb Shalom in Baltimore, which he served for more than 40 years. A notable scholar, he was also an early Zionist, and was devoted to public causes, including abolition. He edited a popular revised prayer book in 1863. |
