| biography:
| Cookery writer, born in London. She studied in Heidelberg and became an accomplished pianist. In 1856 she married Samuel Orchard Beeton, a publisher. She became a household name after the publication of her Book of Household Management, first published in parts (1859–60) in a women's magazine founded by her husband, and covering cookery and other branches of domestic science. She died of puerperal fever at the age of 28. |
