| biography:
| Prince of the Netherlands, and heir to the throne, born in Utrecht, W Netherlands, the eldest son of Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands and Prince Claus von Amsberg. After an education in The Netherlands and Britain he was commissioned into the navy. In 1985 he became a member of the Council of State. In 1987–93 he studied history at the University of Leiden. He regularly represents the Queen at official functions at home and abroad. He has a great interest in flying and holds a pilot's licence, is a patron of the Dutch Sporting Federation, and participates actively in many sports. |
