| biography:
| Film actor and director, born in New York City, USA. After some years as a gag-writer and comic, he turned to film-making with The Producers (1967), following this with a number of zany comedies satirizing established movie styles, among them Blazing Saddles (1974) and Silent Movie (1976). He usually writes the script, and acts in his productions, as well as directing them. Other films include High Anxiety (1977) and History of the World Part One (1980), and he co-produced The Fly (1986) and 84 Charing Cross Road (1986). Later films include Spaceballs (1987), Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993), Dracula: Dead and Loving It (1995), and Svitati (1999). He married actress Anne Bancroft in 1964. |
