| Film director and producer, born in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He was a comic writer for television before Mel Brooks engaged him as a scriptwriter. He made his directorial debut with Diner (1982), which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Screenplay. Other films include the comedy Good Morning Vietnam (1987), Rain Man (1988, Oscar), and Bugsy (1991). He produced, directed, and wrote Sleepers (1996), produced Donnie Brasco (1997), produced/directed Sphere (1997) and Wag the Dog (1998), and directed Liberty Heights (1999) and Bandits (2001). |
