| biography:
| British writer and television film critic. In 1973 he joined BBC television as host of Film ’73, then wrote and presented the show (1973–81, 1983–97) until joining Sky television in 1998. He also wrote and presented the series The Hollywood Greats (1977–9, 1984–5) and Talking Pictures (1988). His books include 100 Best Films of the Century (1992) and The Mickey Mouse Affair (1995). In 1990 he was voted Radio Times Columnist of the Year, and in 1995 was given a special award by the London Film Critics Circle and was honoured with a Special Achievement Award by the Guild of Provincial Film Writers. |
