| Physicist, born in Dresden, E Germany. Following numerous inventions in radio and television technology and electron optics, he turned to applied nuclear physics. He worked in the USSR (1945–55), then became head of the Manfred von Ardenne Forschungsinstitut (M von A Research Institute) in Dresden (1955–90) and (after 1991) the Ardenne-Institut für angewandte medizinische Forschung (A-Institute for Applied Medical Research). After 1965 he was particularly involved in research into cancer and cell regeneration (including the use of oxygen - Sauerstoff-Mehrschritt-Therapie). He wrote Ein glückliches Leben für Technik und Forschung (1972). |
