| Journalist, economist, and conservationist, born in York, North Yorkshire, N England, UK. She studied at Oxford, became foreign editor of The Economist, and was a prolific and popular writer on politics, economics, and ecology. Her books include The International Share Out (1936), Spaceship Earth (1966), and Only One Earth (1972). She was created a dame in 1974, and became a life peer in 1976. |
