| biography:
| US archaeologist, pioneer of the anthropologically-oriented ‘processual’ school of archaeology (‘New Archaeology’). He studied at Michigan University and taught at Ann Arbor, Chicago, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles before becoming professor of anthropology at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. His original manifesto New Perspectives in Archaeology (1968, with Sally R Binford) has subsequently been elaborated in such works as Bones (1981) and In Pursuit of the Past (1983). |
