| biography:
| Economist, born in Budapest, Hungary. He studied in Budapest and at the London School of Economics, where he taught (1932–47). He was chief of the economic planning staff of the US Bombing Survey of Germany (1945), and director of the Research and Planning Division of the Economic Commission for Europe (1947). He was professor of economics at Cambridge (1966–75), economic adviser to the Labour Party, and an outspoken critic of monetarist policies. He was created a peer in 1974. |
