| Novelist, historian, and biographer, born in Sydney, New South Wales, SE Australia. She studied at Sydney University and became librarian at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization. She wrote many books in conjunction with Flora Sydney Patricia Eldershaw (1897–1956) under their joint pseudonym. Best known are A House is Built (1929) and the anti-Utopian novel Tomorrow and Tomorrow (1947, eventually published in unexpurgated form in 1983). Her substantial A History of Australia (1962) was also a popular work. |
