| Scottish soldier and sportsman, born near Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, NE Scotland, UK, celebrated for walking 1000 mi in 1000 consecutive hours. He succeeded to the estate of Urie in 1797, and joined the army in 1805, before retiring to take up management of his estates. His remarkable walking feat was performed at Newmarket from June to July 1809. |
