| Novelists and brothers: John Banim (1798–1842) and Mìchael Banim (1796–1874), born in Kilkenny, SE Ireland. John studied art at Dublin and became a miniature painter; Michael became a postmaster. They collaborated in such novels as the Tales of the O'Hara Family (1825), a faithful portrayal of humble Irish folk. |
