| biography:
| Writer and linguist, born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He held various positions in local government. In 1766 he was a co-founder of the Maatschappij der Nederlandse letterkunde (Society of Dutch literature) and wrote a thorough study of the Middle Dutch language and literature. A classicist, he was very critical of Vondel, in particular, and his works include classicist plays and some poetry. |
