| biography:
| Bishop of Utrecht, born in Oldenzaal, E Netherlands. After his father, Count Ricfried of the Betuwe, had freed Utrecht from the Normans, he brought the seat of the diocese back from Deventer to Utrecht. He supported Hendrik I, and also Otto I of Saxony, who gave him territory and the right to mint coinage in Utrecht, so that the bishopric could hold its own against the neighbouring rulers. |
