| biography:
| Light operatic composer, born in the island of Burano, near Venice, NE Italy. He was educated in Venice, where he lived most of his life, apart from visits to London (1741–3) and St Petersburg (1765–8). His comic operas were extremely popular, and he also composed sacred and instrumental music. He is the subject of a well-known poem by Browning, ‘A Toccata of Galuppi's’. |
