| Educator and writer, born in Wheeling, West Virginia, USA. As a high school teacher in Rabun Gap, GA, he initiated ‘Foxfire’, an innovative programme of student-initiated projects based on regional folklore. His Foxfire Fund (established 1966) and Foxfire manuals of traditional crafts and folklore (1972) helped to document S Appalachian culture, train teachers, and establish similar programmes nationwide. |
