| biography:
| Financier and industrialist, born in Uddevalla, SW Sweden. He founded Electrolux in 1919, undertook large-scale projects such as a holiday resort in the Bahamas, a telephone company in Mexico, and (in 1956) a huge development complex in British Columbia comprising electrical plants, mining, and forestry. His Swedish interests were united in Fulcrum AB, which went into liquidation in 1975. During his lifetime, and in his will, he donated vast sums for scientific research to institutions in Stockholm and New York City. |
