| King of the Lombards. He became king (584) after a long period of anarchy following the death of his father Clefi (574), and married Theodolinda in 589. He reorganized the country's administration and tried to reconcile the different factions. When threatened with an invasion by a Frank–Byzantine alliance, he reached an agreement with the Franks. He left the crown a number of new territories given to him by the dukes. |
