| biography:
| Psychiatrist and entomologist, born near Morges, SW Switzerland. He studied at the universities of Zürich and Vienna, was professor of psychiatry at Zürich (1879–98), and made notable contributions in the fields of the anatomy of the brain and nerves, hypnotism, and forensic psychiatry. He also worked for social reform to prevent sexually transmitted diseases and alcoholism. After retiring he continued to work for social reform, and also studied the psychology of ants. |
