| Dancer and choreographer, born in Copenhagen, Denmark. After training with the Royal Danish Ballet, he moved to Paris (1826) to study at the Paris Opera. He spent the rest of his career (from 1828) with the Royal Danish Ballet, first as a dancer and (from 1830) as director. He choreographed over 50 works, and pioneered a romantic style and precision of technique which became widely influential. |
