| biography:
| Archaeologist, born in Barcelona, NE Spain, with an interest in ethnology, sociology, and the management of museums. Until the foundation of the Museo Arqueológico de Barcelona, where he worked as an assistant with a scholarship, he served also as assistant professor to the chair of sociology of the Universidad de Barcelona. At the same time as he performed these duties he helped at the Instituto Rodrigo Coro de Arqueologic and the Arxiu d'Etnografia i Folklore de Catalunya, directed by T Carreras i Artau. He took part in a scientific expedition to Guinea (1948) supported by the Instituto de Estudios Africanos and, on his return, advocated the founding of a museum dedicated to ethnology in general. Thanks to L Pericot, he taught ethnology (and prehistory) at the Universidad de Barcelona and took part in 25 expeditions until his retirement in 1988. Of his many publications, the most important are Las Razas Humanas (1956) and El hombre, origen y vida (1963). |
