| biography:
| Poet and philologist, born in Fallersleben, NC Germany. He studied at Göttingen and Bonn, was keeper of the university library of Wrocław, Poland (formerly Breslau, Prussia) (1823–38)), and professor of German there (1830–42). He is best known for his popular and patriotic Volkslieder, including ‘Alle Vögel sind schon da’ and the song ‘Deutschland, Deutschland über Alles’ (1841), which became the German national anthem in 1922. |
