Professor at Göttingen (1876) and Wrocław, Poland (formerly Breslau, Prussia) (1887)), he pioneered the comparative study of Indo-European vocabulary with his Indo-Germanic dictionary (1870). He also wrote works on Greek personal names and the original language of the Iliad. |
