| Novelist, born in Paramaribo, Suriname. She expressly manifests herself as a Suriname writer addressing themes such as racism, alienation from the native country, and homesickness. She is a strong advocate for the survival of the Suriname culture in Dutch society. In her prose she mixes Dutch and Suriname elements in a style which may be described as dynamic and imaginative, and conveys her message by means of symbols and metaphors with strong feminine and cultural overtones. In addition, she writes poetry and plays. |
