| King of Assyria (668–627 BC), the last of the great Assyrian kings, the son of Esarhaddon and grandson of Sennacherib. A patron of the arts, he founded at Nineveh the first systematically gathered and organized library in the Middle East, containing a vast number of texts on numerous subjects copied from temple libraries throughout his empire. |
