| biography:
| Sculptor, born in Iceland. He studied in Stockholm and Paris, visited Greece and Italy, and returned to Iceland in 1930. An artist of great versatility, his work was both figurative and abstract, and drew for inspiration on traditional Icelandic Saga material and folk-tales, but becoming increasingly abstract and Expressionist. He worked with equal ease in stone, cement, metal, and wood. Many of his works stand in public places around Reykjavík, and in his spherical workshop, now a museum devoted to his work. |
