| Geographer, born in Montreal, Quebec, SE Canada. He studied at Miami and Wisconsin universities, then taught at Wisconsin (1936–8) and Ohio State (1938–41), and became chief of the map division at the Office of Strategic Services (1941–6). Professor of geography at Wisconsin (1945–80), he is internationally known for his major cartographic textbooks, notably Elements of Cartography. |
