| Popular novelist, born in Luton, Bedfordshire, SC England, UK. He became a naturalized Canadian in 1947. He worked in industry and sales before becoming a freelance writer in 1956. He has written many best-selling blockbusters about disasters, several of which have become highly successful films, such as Hotel (1965), Airport (1968), and Wheels (1971). Later novels include Strong Medicine (1984), The Evening News (1990), and Detective (1997). |
