| Educator and academic administrator, born in New York City, New York, USA. His posts included senior fellow at Carnegie Council on Policy Studies in Higher Education (University of California, Berkeley) (1975–80), senior fellow of the Carnegie Foundation (1980–2), president of Bradford (Massachusetts) College (1982–9), and chair of the Institution of Education Management, Harvard (1989). His books include Reform of Undergraduate Education (co-authored, 1973), Why Innovation Fails (1980), and Shaping Higher Education's Future (1989). |
