| Engineer, born in Mumbai (Bombay), W India. He went to the USA in 1887, and worked as assistant to Edison. In 1894 he founded a consultancy firm in Philadelphia, where he developed new mathematical analyses of electrical circuits, and in 1902 discovered the ionized layer in the atmosphere, sometimes named after him. |
