| Novelist, born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He did not finish his secondary education, and began his literary career as a playwright. In 1994 his first novel Blauwe maandagen (Blue Mondays) appeared to much critical acclaim. He was nominated to write the 1998 Book Week Gift, De heilige Antonio (The Holy Antonio), an honour which confirmed his breakthrough as a writer. He also writes columns for the NRC Handelsblad and the VPRO broadcasting corporation. |
