| biography:
| Writer, born in Vienna, Austria. Together with Brecht and Bruckner, he was part of the Expressionist theatre avant-garde in Berlin after World War 1. Changing political allegiance several times, he joined the Communist Party after being expelled from the Reichschrifttumskammer in 1943. In 1953 he moved to East Berlin, where he worked as a theatre critic. His experimental production techniques and treatment of erotic themes in his plays were considered scandalous. Other works include an autobiography, arnolt bronnen gibt zu protokoll (1954), and memoirs, Tage mit Bertolt Brecht (1960). |
