| Writer, born in Rastenburg, Germany. His poetry collection Das Buch der Zeit. Lieder eines Modernen (1886) shows the influence of Heine and Geibel. Together with his friend Johannes Schlaf, he espoused a ‘konsequente Naturalismus’ defining art through the mathematical formula ‘Art = Nature - x’. In his search for innovative modes of expression he used colloquialisms and rejected conventional forms of verse. |
