| biography:
| Writer of fantastic but original romances, born in Berlin, Germany. He stirred up a warm sympathy for earlier popular poetry, and published over 20 volumes, mainly tales and novels, including (with Clemens von Brentano) the folk-song collection Des Knaben Wunderhorn. His wife, Bettina (1785–1859), Brentano's sister, was as a girl infatuated with Goethe, and afterwards published a (largely fictitious) Correspondence with him, as well as 10 volumes of tales and essays. |
