| French stage director and playwright. She studied at Paris and London universities, and founded the Association Théâtrale des Etudiants de Paris at the Sorbonne (1959), putting on plays, and organizing workshops and lectures. In 1963 she founded the Théâtre du Soleil as a theatre co-operative. The early productions were influenced by the teachings of Stanislavsky, and their first major success came with a production of Arnold Wesker's The Kitchen in 1967. 1789, first produced in 1970, is one of the company's best-known works. |
