| Ethnarch of Judaea, the son of Herod the Great, who succeeded his father in AD 1. His heirship being disputed by his brother Herod Antipas, Archelaus went to Rome, where his authority was confirmed by Octavianus Augustus. After a nine-year reign, he was deposed by Augustus for his tyranny, and banished. |
