| Syrian clergyman, the son of Apollinaris the Elder, presbyter of Laodicea. One of the sternest opponents of Arianism, he became Bishop of Laodicea from 360. He upheld a doctrine (Apollinarianism) condemned by the Council of Constantinople (381) as denying the true human nature of Christ. |
