| biography:
| Historian and playwright, born in Reus, NE Spain. Founder of the satirical review El Hongo and drama critic under his pseudonym, he also contributed to the liveliness of the Catalan Renaissance and the renewal of the ‘Jocs Florals’. His plays included Pedro ‘el Católico’, rey de Aragón (1842) and Roger de Flor (1845). His only historical novel was the mediocre Blanca o la huérfana de Menargues (1876). His historical works, for which he is best known, relied on the archives of the Kingdom of Aragón, whose director he was for many years. They include Crónica de Pedro IV ‘el Ceremonioso’ (1845) and Historia de don Jaime I (1848). |
