| Italian politician, born in San Giovanni a Teduccio, Campania, SW Italy. Agriculture and trade minister in the temporary 1848 government in Naples, he was forced into exile after its fall. Back in Naples in 1860, he was briefly finance minister under the Garibaldi dictatorship. An Italian deputy from 1860, he was the finance minister (1866–7) responsible for introducing the unpopular ‘forced currency’ measure. |
