| biography:
| Actor, born in Paterna, Valencia, E Spain. A teacher who became interested in theatre, he finally devoted all his time to it from the 1950s. His debut in films during this period was not notable, although his face became familar on television. The great success of the later series Verano azul (1981), in which he played Chanquete, almost ruined his chances of further acting, whether on stage or in films. The winner of several best actor awards, he is remembered in the theatre for El rinoceronte and Los caciques. His films include Fata Morgana (1966, director Vicente Aranda), Tristana (1969, director Luis Buñuel), Los nuevos españoles (1974, director Roberta Bodegas), La casa grande (1975, director Francisco Rodríguez), Parranda (1976, director Gonzalo Suárez), La escopeta nacional (1977, director Luis G Berlanga), and Volver a empezar (1981,director José Luis Garci). He also co-produced various films as a partner of Blau Films. |
