Her novels are rooted in the geography, history, and people of Acadia, and after the success of La Sagouine (1971) and Pelagie-La-Charrette (1979), she dominated contemporary Acadian literature. The Prix Goncourt was awarded to her for Pelagie-La-Charrette, bringing her overnight fame in France. |
