| Dutch businessman. A salesman for the light-bulb manufacturing business founded by his brother, he travelled throughout Europe before World War 1 seeking a market for their products. He took over the company in 1921, began mass production of one of the first radio sets, and built the company into a major manufacturer of electrical domestic equipment. Philips, together with Sony, invented the compact disc. |
