| Writer and film maker, born in Utrecht, W Netherlands. A journalist and drama critic, he became popular with his animal stories, such as Er zit geen spek in de val (1958, There is No Bacon in the Trap) in which he deals with human themes represented by animal life. From 1962 he also began writing novels with human characters, some of which were made into films by the well-known Dutch film maker, Bert Haanstra, with whom Koolhaas co-operated on several occasions. In 1989 Koolhaas was awarded the Constantijn Huygensprijs and in 1992 the P C Hooft-prijs for his entire body of work. |
