| biography:
| Scholar, born in Florence, Tuscany, NC Italy. Although self-taught, he soon established himself in Florentine literary circles and co-founded the Accademia degli Umidi (1540) and the Accademia della Crusca (1583). He wrote poems in Berni's style, seven plays, among them La gelosia, La strega, and La Sibilla (all published in 1582), and the Cene (1743–56) a collection of short stories in Boccaccio's style. |
