| biography:
| Architect and engraver, born in Paris, France. He became architect to the king (1655) and a member of the Académie (1671). His works in Paris include the convent chapel at Port-Royal (1650) and, notably, the Hôtel de Beauvais (1655). He published a volume of engravings of designs for houses (1652), remarkable for their fantastic features and massive scale. |
